Sorry for the late reply, the internet here is very patchy.
My new family is nice, just me a host mum, host dad and host nonna. There are some times I have found it a bit tricky because they don’t have kids so this is all new to them.
We are staying in Abruzzo, around 7 hours by car from Milan for the rest of the summer holidays. It’s very pretty here, the house looks right over the beach and we can drive to the Gran Sasso in 2 hours which was super cool.
The 15th of August was Ferragosto, a massive celebration day here. We went up to a little town in the mountains to have quite possibly the biggest lunch ever with a cousin of my host mum. We had arrosticini (an Italian bbq skewer), homemade pasta, homemade meatballs, lamb chops, plenty of fruit, tiramisu, biscuits and some very yummy salads. It was quite warm so we stayed inside most the day but did a little walk to see the small town.
Last week we headed up to Gran Sasso, a really tall mountain in Italy. It was stunning, we didn’t hike it unfortunately but still had a pretty view. We also had a massive bbq there, lots and lots of meat!
Other than that I have just been at the beach each day, and have made some friends. I have found that Italians from the south are more welcoming and inviting than Italians from the north, so I’m enjoying that. I have written a postcard but have yet to take a picture because as u said before, it’s difficult to find good internet. This afternoon I am heading to a spot with good internet, so I will send through some pictures!
Port Dock Station Opening Event - 24th and 25th August 2024
From the NRM website
Join us on the 24th and 25th August 2024 as we celebrate the opening of the Port Dock Station!
Community Open Day on 24th August and first public trains on 25th August.
On 24th August, the PTP Alliance is holding a Community Open Day in the car park adjacent to the National Railway Museum, and at the new station behind the NRM site.
On this day, the National Railway Museum, South Australian Aviation Museum, Clipper Ship City of Adelaide, and South Australian Maritime Museum, will be offering free entry between 11am and 2pm.
The NRM will also be offering cheaper admission prices from 10am to 11am, and from 2pm to 4pm ($10 for adults, $5 for concession and children).
A free shuttle bus will be running between the Museums during the 11am-2pm window. The Redhens will be running at the NRM, for a gold coin donation (or EFT donation).
Scouts will also be onsite with their fantastic barbecue.
More information about the Community Open Day can be found at https://s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/.../PA-PTPA... Please note that public trains to the new station do not start until the 25th, there will be no public trains to the new station on the 24th.
On Sunday 25 August, the NRM will be running the Redhens again, which will be included in the price of admission, and
catering onsite will be both:
- Scouts with their barbecue; and
- Rotary in the Cafe Car.
Normal admission prices apply. This is the first day of public trains running to the new station, so take the opportunity to catch a train ride directly to the back doorstep of the National Railway Museum!
The QR code will take you to our website! You will see latest stories and photos from member activities.
