Rotary International Youth Exchange
Abby O'Brien has been proposed by our Club and accepted!

She will be going to Italy in January 2024 for 12 months.

A briefing, the first of two, was held on Sunday 24 September at Charles Campbell College. This was for Outbound students, their parents, and for sponsoring Clubs.
Ros attended as Abby's Counsellor, and met up with her parents.

A number of presentations were given, which included:

  • Child protection requirements and standards of Rotary International
  • travel arrangements
  • advice on emotional wellbeing, home sickness etc
  • the structure of the international exchange program
Both students and parents alike are very excited at the exchange opportunity.

Parents were encouraged to liaise with their sponsoring Rotary Club.

As a consequence, we now have Abby's parents contact details. We will include Shaun and Karren in the distribution of our Club Newsletter.

CLOTHES SORTED @ BARBARA'S PLACE on Saturday 23 September

A sort of assembly line:
Louie removing buttons
Jane, Barbara, Sue & Rosie sorting into sizes
Alison, Yvonne, Peter, Tracey, Andrew, Robin & Ros rolling, then packing into cartons. Also bagging of non-compliant items.
Steve & Westy  providing sustenance and words of encouragement.
About 20 volunteer hours expended!

Alison dropped of the boxes to the Port Adelaide Police Station on Monday, with the remainder deemed not suitable handed over to St Bedes Op Shop as CHATS did not need any clothes at this stage.

This project could be on-going as the need is continuous.
Also, we could engage other clubs in SA to do something similar as it is not a costly exercise – we just need to plant the seed within our district etc.

Then, after we had relocated clothing from Barbara and Steve's place into Alison's car, most retired next door for a sausage sizzle.
Unfortunately there was a glitch in getting access to the BBQ trailer, so we could not christen/commission the new hotplate - maybe another time.

Well done to Alison for another valuable activity.

2023-09 AVEO Haven visit
 Gallery item image 2
Twenty two members and friends visited the AVEO Haven Village at North Haven on Monday. They treated us to a morning tea, during which we received information on their units. Many questions were asked, enabling a clear understanding of the facilities and cost profile.

We visited an "inside" room, basically a bed-sitter. This was quite roomy, with a small kitchenette.

The "outside" 2 bedroom apartment provided some amenity for those wanting independence.

Thanks to Lyn for organising, and also members who brought along guests.

For our effort we will receive a $500 gift card which will assist in covering our fundraising bbq costs.
