PE Robin has agreed to be the conduit to save our files & memories into the Cloud. As part of our MicroSoft subscription we have a 1 terabyte (TB) cloud storage plan. 1 TB is a lot of data
[1,024 gigabytes (GB) or 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, whatever they are].
The Board are the guinea pigs, and have received a link to gain access to the New RCWL Storage Filing System.
They will commence “Moving” any files on personal computers to the RCWL system.
It is important that the main filing storage is on the Cloud as personal PC can fail. It is also important that Club Documents and Photos are not ‘lost’
Attached is a current screen shot of the filing system so far.
It is possible to add appropriate directories as needed. For example, if you have files that are to be determined later, they can be saved (Under your name) in the Directory “To Be Sorted”. Other Photos and Documents can be stored in the appropriate directory.
Robin envisages that documents currently in ClubRunner can be transferred to the new system. This is a medium-term goal.
All members are encouraged to gather any Files or Photos on to a USB and bring in to each meeting so that they can be uploaded to the storage system.
This will be a great benefit for our Club moving forward and will also assist the 50 year committee research.
If you are unsure how to put your files on a USB please see Robin, (or perhaps a grandchild).
After the electronic files are collected we will then discuss gathering Old physical Documents and photos and how to convert them to electronic storage.
Please remember, (to facilitate return of your USB), bring your files in on Tuesday night with your name attached to the USB
Robin is available to assist anyone who may have data/files that need to be transferred.

The Rotary Club of West Lakes has recently given a donation to the Community Help And TogethernesS team (CHATS) at Port Adelaide to buy a large upright freezer.
CHATS needed to replace a small, outdated chest freezer with an upright freezer to better cater for their growing demand. The larger upright freezer will now enable more food and a larger variety of food to be stored. The clients who access this food are those who are in real need of additional help, these are the homeless and those who are suffering food insecurity for themselves and their families. Food from this freezer will also be included in food hampers for those who seek emergency help. It is expected that the larger freezer will not only meet immediate needs, but will enable expanded demand as the number of clients increases.
The Rotary Club of West Lakes contribution to this donation was doubled through the award of a Rotary Foundation District Grant.
The Rotary Foundation is Rotary International’s own Charity, which collects donations worldwide, then distributes funds to support individual club projects.
Some of the 270L of milk from the LIV Golf event was able to be stored in the new freezer!
Andrew, Ros and Ken (Foundation Director) visited CHATS last Thursday to see the new acquisition.
Rose Darling was very grateful, which made the whole process satisfying for we Club members.
her note back to us
"We love every inch of it. Thank you all so much, this will save so much food that CHATS can share xxxx You all do such a wonderful job.
97 for breakfast this morning, many new faces - 3 being new to being homeless so they were glad of sleeping bags xx"
Another great use of the Rotary Foundation to help local communities!
Noticed in the CHATS shop front - Blanket Revolution at the fore!!!
To All Donors – New Dawn – Rotary – Ukraine Projects. RAWCS No 58-2022-23.
Hello EveryoneThank you Message & Current projects February 2025
Firstly, thank you for your ongoing support and recent donation to our humanitarian aid projects in Ukraine.
The projects below could not have been funded and completed in southern Ukraine without your help.
The RC West Lakes funds $1,000 went into our general projects account on the 17th of December 2024
The funds received during this time, that were not specifically donated to the Voznesensk School Furniture Appeal, have been applied to the Sofievka School Bomb Shelter Project (Explained below). Attached are some photos of the progress on that project, which is nearing completion.
These photos will be placed on our District Web Site shortly. Under, Programs, International, Ukraine,
If a Peace Deal does eventuate in Ukraine this year, these new Bomb Shelters can be used as additional Classrooms when more students return to the village. Many of the existing school buildings/classrooms have been partly or totally destroyed.
We are also working on a new Project, “Medical Centre No 5” in the Village of Pravdyne, funds received recently have also been allocated to this project. (Will be approved shortly and started at the end of February)
I hope this clarified, how your valued contribution has been applied to our Ukraine projects. As you can see we are working on 1 or 2 or even 3 projects at any one time.
Please also pass on this thank you and projects update to club members, colleagues and friends supporting the New Dawn - Rotary - Ukraine projects.
New Dawn – Rotary - Ukraine Projects –
Modular Medical Centre No 4 - Urozhaine – Project completed December 2024- Village of Urozhaine 90 kilometres east of Mykolaiv. Project included Building the Modular Medical Centre in Odesa, transport to site and crane, Site works, and Medical staff furniture.
Work in Progress -
Voznesensk School Furniture Appeal. The Appeal is now completed. A School Furniture order has been placed with a manufacturer in Odesa. (Student Desks 60, Chairs 120, Benches 60 and Marker Boards 6 ) we anticipate this order will be delivered to the school in late February
Sofeivka School – Bomb Shelter Project –
The New Dawn Rotary team received a request last year from the Local Administration CEO of Sofievka to support the construction of a Bomb Shelter adjacent to a school in the village ( Southern Ukraine). The community is slowly reestablishing itself during the war. Family members are returning to their homes. Children attending school are required to have accessible bomb shelters within a reasonable distance. The New Dawn Rotary team have partnered with the local council administration to build this particular bomb shelter. We provide materials, they provide labour and equipment.
Construction is well underway and should be completed in late February
We provide Ukraine progress updates on our Rotary District 9510 web page.
As mentioned by member Bill (ex RC Clare), he is the local contact for RC Clare's wine offer. He has a supply to assist in saving shipping costs.
Please talk to Bill if you are interested.
Notes on the O'Leary Walker wines for sale
Watervale Riesling 2023
A very pale green/gold with a powerful and concentrated nose offering florals, minerals, wet slate, chalk and limes. Powerful but refined at all stages.
Current retail price: $22.99 Winestar reviews
Adelaide Hills (Oakbank) Shiraz 2018
"Full of vibrant fruit flavours ranging from red to purple to black garnished by spice, pepper and liquorice. Balanced and coherent."
Current retail price: $40-$31 94 points Halliday Wine Companion
Clare Valley Shiraz 2021
"What a glorious expression of Clare Valley Shiraz. It’s a wine that speaks of the land and the soil, of Aussie bush notes and earth, of bramble, blackcurrant, black cherry, peppercorns, liquorice, sage and warm clove oak. And that’s just the wealth of aromas that explode in the glass after pouring. Boasts plenty of class all round, naturally fine featured, well integrated. The 14.5% alcohol might suggest a high degree of richness and weight, but it’s deceptive.
The Shiraz remains well within medium bodied territory in red plums, black cherry, bush notes and earth boasting an overall fineness. Tannin management, I would suggest, is the key here, bringing structure and suppleness. The result is a perfect balance.
This can only be a plus as it ages…..and it most certainly will age well. And look at that price! Outstanding value here."
Note: 2021 VINTAGE AWARDED BEST SHIRAZ IN SHOW: LONDON WINE
Current Retail Price: $40-$32 95 Points Halliday Wine Companion
Watervale Malbec 2014
Colour: Deep red and purple
Bouquet: Beautifully perfumed with black cherry and plum. Lifted aromatic violets and oak spice. Rich and full bodied with complex layers. Inky fruit with blackberry, currants and sweet spices.
The Malbec is from the O’Leary-Walker Wines block situated in Watervale. The soil profile of red loam over limestone, with a westerly aspect, is hand-pruned and hand-picked and relies only on the natural rainfall. The limestone is able to retain moisture and assist the vine throughout periods of warm weather, almost drought proofing in the summer months.
Current Retail price: $30 Review by Wines by cellars
