JDRF BBQ 23 Feb
President Scott,

thank you for agreeing to provide the BBQ for our fundraiser at the semaphore Surf Life Saving Club on 23 February!

We have the food covered hopefully all with $500 voucher being given to purchase, I have onions being donated so will use the $500 for sausages, bread and drinks, napkins and bin bags.

Can RCWL provide and support with:

  • BBQ incl Gas bottles
  • Gazebo and tables
  • Utensils

JDRF can supply float, tin, eftpos machine, square and
- additional volunteers needed?
how many do you need me to get?

Later this week I will begin the timing but looks like first team will be at 10.30am.

Feel free to give me a call from tomorrow as I am in meetings for the remainder of the day today.

Thank you again so much for your support, it is greatly appreciated.

Warmest regards

Lauren

Bunnings briefing
Ros and Andrew attended a briefing at Bunnings Woodville last Thursday.

Nicole started a bit early, however was available to answer questions and happy to repeat information as required.

There were about 10-15 in attendance, fundraising for:
- scout/girl guides
- dragon boats
- community groups/assistance
- School and sporting Clubs etc

Key points

  • Nicole expects her team to construct/erect (bump in) the tents/BBQ, and also do the tear down  (bump out) - refer to photo below of sample setup
  • she is happy for Clubs who want to help, to assist with bump in/out
  • standard plan is for two (2) tents, Clubs can organise however they want, but must keep
    • access clear to fire blanket and extinguisher
    • access clear from BBQ to outside
  • no counting of money inside the tents
  • she has provided an extra full size table and a bin!
  • Hot Weather operation is at the discretion of each Club, Bunnings may intervene
    • Nicole will supply battery operated fans as appropriate
  • Bunnings will decide on operation during inclement weather (wind, rain etc), as this has a potentially greater risk to general public/equipment
  • Nicole also reiterated potential support to Club's other activities (like she did for our Christmas event)
  • at the moment, Woodville run BBQ's on 4 days, Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon

Oh, and there was a lucky door prize - which RCWL won!
Nicole is very generous, she also had a number of gift vouchers as minor prizes.

Notes on the O'Leary Walker wines for sale

Watervale                                            Riesling                                                           2023
A very pale green/gold with a powerful and concentrated nose offering florals, minerals, wet slate, chalk and limes. Powerful but refined at all stages.
Current retail price: $22.99                                                                   Winestar reviews

Adelaide Hills (Oakbank)                Shiraz                                                               2018
"Full of vibrant fruit flavours ranging from red to purple to black garnished by spice, pepper and liquorice. Balanced and coherent."
Current retail price: $40-$31          94 points                      Halliday Wine Companion

Clare Valley                                        Shiraz                                                               2021
"What a glorious expression of Clare Valley Shiraz. It’s a wine that speaks of the land and the soil, of Aussie bush notes and earth, of bramble, blackcurrant, black cherry, peppercorns, liquorice, sage and warm clove oak. And that’s just the wealth of aromas that explode in the glass after pouring. Boasts plenty of class all round, naturally fine featured, well integrated. The 14.5% alcohol might suggest a high degree of richness and weight, but it’s deceptive.
The Shiraz remains well within medium bodied territory in red plums, black cherry, bush notes and earth boasting an overall fineness. Tannin management, I would suggest, is the key here, bringing structure and suppleness. The result is a perfect balance.
This can only be a plus as it ages…..and it most certainly will age well. And look at that price! Outstanding value here."
Note2021 VINTAGE AWARDED BEST SHIRAZ IN SHOW: LONDON WINE
Current Retail Price: $40-$32         95 Points                     Halliday Wine Companion

Watervale                                            Malbec                                                             2014
Colour: Deep red and purple
Bouquet: Beautifully perfumed with black cherry and plum. Lifted aromatic violets and oak spice. Rich and full bodied with complex layers. Inky fruit with blackberry, currants and sweet spices.
The Malbec is from the O’Leary-Walker Wines block situated in Watervale. The soil profile of red loam over limestone, with a westerly aspect, is hand-pruned and hand-picked and relies only on the natural rainfall. The limestone is able to retain moisture and assist the vine throughout periods of warm weather, almost drought proofing in the summer months.
Current Retail price: $30                                                       Review by Wines by cellars
